The Rhind papyrus is an Egyptian mathematical text dating from about 1650 B.C.E. It is named after Alexander Henry Rhind, a Scottish antiquarian, who purchased the papyrus in 1858 in Luxor, Egypt. This document is important in that it gives considerable insight into ancient Egyptian mathematics. The text contains eighty-four word problems and their solutions. These word problem concern numerical operations, practical problem-solving, and geometrical shapes.
